PKR42.41b Reserved for Polls this Year

The federal government has allocated around PKR 42.41 billion for upcoming elections. The elections are likely to be held in October or November of 2023.

PKR 15 billion has been reserved for security, while the project management unit and voting will get PKR 5.60 billion. A sum of PKR 4.83 billion has been reserved for the printing of ballot papers.

The printing of election lists will cost PKR 270 million and PKR 1.79 billion will be spent on training personnel.

The media coordination will get an amount of PKR 500 million while PKR 1.2 billion has been allocated for overall preparation for the next elections.

If we talk in terms of provinces, PKR 9.65 billion has been reserved in the budget for elections in Punjab, PKR 3.95 for KP, PKR 3.65 billion for Sindh, and more than PKR 1.11 billion has been reserved for elections in Balochistan.

ECP had requested PKR 54 billion to conduct elections across Pakistan, however, the federal government has promised a total of PKR 47 billion out of which PKR 5 billion had already been paid to the electoral watchdog. The remaining PKR 42 billion will be reserved in today’s budget.

The ECP already announced in March that elections in Punjab will be delayed till October because they can not conduct transparent and peaceful polls in April due to security threats and lack of funds.
