Govt Announces Additional Holiday for Eid After Severe Backlash

Due to severe backlash received regarding the initially announced holiday schedule starting from 29th June, the government of Pakistan has now announced an additional Eid holiday.

The government has now announced Eid holidays starting on 28th June in response to concerns raised by individuals about having to go to their offices on Wednesday. Consequently, all public offices will remain closed from 28th June to 30th June 2023.

Prior to the announcement, the moon-sighting committee and zonal committees held meetings in all provincial capitals of the country. Testimonies confirming the sighting of the Zilhaj moon were received from various areas, including Islamabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Ghotki, Karachi, Bahawalnagar, and Peshawar.

As a result, it was unanimously decided that the first day of Zilhaj was on 20th June 2023, and Eidul Azha would be celebrated on 29th June 2023.
