According to Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, the federal government has agreed to fix the wheat support price at a rate that benefits both farmers and the country.
In a joint press conference with Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman in Karachi, he stated that the new wheat support price will be determined following a discussion at the next Cabinet meeting.
According to Syed Naveed Qamar, most agricultural land is no longer suitable for crop cultivation as a result of the recent floods, but some land that could be used for crop cultivation will be used.
He stated that farmers should be encouraged to grow wheat crops on their lands rather than other cash crops in order to meet demand.
Sherry Rehman, speaking on the occasion, stated that recent rains and floods have damaged 80 to 82 per cent of crops and destroyed 410 million acres of land. She stated that 854 billion rupees are required to rebuild the destroyed land.
