How to Setup Chromecast

Chromecast by Google is the easiest and cheapest streaming method for just about anything from mobile phone or tablet onto a bigger screen. Here is how you can set up the Chromecast.

Step 1: Plug in Your Chromecast Device

Plug Chromecast into your TV

The first part is pretty straightforward. Hook up the Chromecast into your TV’s HDMI port. The second USB wire goes into a compatible port or power outlet. If you are using a 4K-compatible version of Chromecast Ultra, you will need to connect the USB power cable to the included power adapter. Then plug it into a wall outlet safely.

You will know when the device is ready for setup when an on-screen prompt appears on the screen just like the one shown here. 

Step 2. Download the Google Home App

Download the Google Home App into your device; either smartphone or tablet. The app is easily accessible on Play Store for Android users and Apple Store for iOS users. 

Step 3. Set Up Chromecast

Open the Google Home app and follow the below steps for an easy setup of the Chromecast device. 

1. Tap the + sign in the top left corner of the app. 

2. Select Set up device.

3. Select New devices. 

4. Choose a home you are installing it in. You will be able to control the devices and services in this home. Be sure to turn on the Bluetooth of your device for a faster connection. The app will now set up the new device without any complex actions. Just tap continue when prompted.

5. Select Chromecast.

6. Tap next and confirm the 4-letter code displayed on the screen. Then tap I agree to confirm the legal fine print. 

7. Choose a location for your Chromecast device. This will help you to organize your devices accordingly. 

8. Pair the device with a WiFi network that is the same as on your mobile phone. 

9. Tap Continue to set up Google Assistant and choose various service options. Then take an optional tutorial to understand the basics of how it works. 

The setup is successful. You’re all done!

Step 4. Cast Content

Casting any content on your Television is a simple way through your Chromecast device. You can enjoy all your favorite apps supported for Chromecast optimized for the big screen. The mobile device or tablet that has installed the Google Home app can be used as a remote to control everything from playback to volume. 

Before you begin casting, make sure that the Chromecast device and mobile phone or tablet are connected to the same WiFi network. Your device is ready to cast content from the Chromecast-enabled apps to the TV. Open the apps like YouTube, Facebook, Netflix, Soundcloud, etc., and tap the Cast button. Select the device you would like to cast to and you will be connected. You can now cast movies, videos, TV shows directly on the big screen. Control the volume from the pop-up or disconnect any time when you are done watching. 

Troubleshoot Setup

If the above setup didn’t work, try the following steps:

• Reboot your Chromecast.
• Unplug your router, then plug it back in.
• Connect manually to your Chromecast’s service set identifier (SSID).
  • Open your phone’s Settings app and then tap Wi-Fi and then connect to the Chromecast SSID.
  • Open the Google Home app and try setup again.
• Factory reset your Chromecast
