The previous version, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy Note 10 series in 2019 had the same feature. The Galaxy S20 series fingerprint scanner uses ultrasonic technology.

Samsung did face some issues with this technology in Galaxy S10 phones. After that, Samsung released a software patch for those phones to improve the speed and use of the scanner. Samsung continued to use the technology for the Note 10 and Galaxy S20 series.
