  • Easy Steps to Pay PTA Mobile Registration Tax Online in 2023

The first step after purchasing a used, refurbished, or imported mobile device in Pakistan is to have its IMEI number confirmed with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). If the authority does not recognize your device, it may be disabled after a set amount of time, and you may be unable to use it on any cellular network in the country.

If you do not want your mobile phone to be blocked, you may need to register it with PTA by paying the applicable taxes. The procedure is simple and may be completed online in a few simple steps.

Most non-PTA-approved mobile devices cannot be operated with SIM cards 60 days after being imported into Pakistan. When they pay a certain amount of duty/tax on their gadgets, the PTA unblocks them, and the SIM cards can be used again.

Why Is It Important to Register Mobile Phone Devices With PTA?

In Pakistan, mobile phone devices must be registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to avoid being blocked. It is a simple process that can be completed online, and it is important to do so to avoid any future issues with your device. Here are some of the reasons why you should register your mobile phone devices with PTA:

To Avoid Device Blocking: There is a potential that your mobile phone device will be blocked if you do not register it with PTA. PTA has created a Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS), which disables unregistered or smuggled devices that do not match the government’s technological standards.

To Avoid Penalties and Fines: The PTA can levy penalties and fines on unregistered mobile phone devices. Depending on the device type and the infraction’s severity, these penalties and fines can range from PKR 5000 to PKR 100,000.

To Prevent Illegal Activity: Registration of your mobile phone device with PTA aids in the prevention of criminal actions such as smuggling and using counterfeit devices. By registering your gadget, you are assisting the government in combating these illegal actions.

To Ensure Network Compatibility: When you register your mobile phone device with PTA, you confirm that it is compatible with the local mobile networks. This helps to prevent connectivity issues and guarantees that you can fully utilize your device.

    End Note

The latest taxes on the iPhone series in 2023 have been revised and increased along with other smartphones. The levy was put in place to “promote local industry” and generate revenue for the government. According to the administration, the tax would also not apply to existing mobile phones. PTA tax calculators can be used to compute smartphone taxes.
