The world has evolved in technology and people are working every day to facilitate us and make advancements in technological stuff. Telecommunication is also advancing in the world whereas in Pakistan we are still stuck with 3G and 4G connections. The online population in Pakistan has been increasing day by day and no matter what status or class people are in they are accessing the internet and using social media. 61.34 million people are using the internet and are available on social media in Pakistan, which is quite a big number. However, the slow internet is not a new thing for Pakistani citizens and it causes many hurdles in their work-life but still 5G is nowhere to be seen in Pakistan for making their life easier.
What Stops 5G coming to Pakistan
5G is 100 times faster than the 4G connection and Pakistanis are still devoid of this facility. There are many reasons we are lagging behind the world and some of the few reasons are:
- Market Readiness
- Unplanned Strategies
- New Connection on Old Frequencies
- Infrastructure Needs Work
- Lack Of Awareness
Market Readines
The market is not ready for 5G connectivity these days because most of the phones that are being manufactured in Pakistan do not support 5G connectivity. The gadgets are not compatible with 5G connectivity and we need to change a lot of things to make everything compatible with the 5G connectivity. Some of the high-end phones do come with 5G connectivity such as Samsung galaxy S22 ultra, iPhone 13 pro, Xiaomi 11T pro, etc; however, most of the phones still need to be updated for getting 5G connectivity.
Since the low budget phones do not have 5G connectivity and most of the people in Pakistan have low budget phones then in such cases it is difficult to expect the success of 5G connectivity in Pakistan.
Unplanned Strategies
Although Pakistan does have 4G connectivity, a lot of people are still stuck with 2G connectivity because of the unplanned strategies in Pakistan. Since, because of zero plans and strategies, a lot of people do not have any idea about 4G connectivity because of which they do not use it and in order to move from 4G to 5G connectivity it is believed that at least 60 percent of people should be using 4G connectivity. Expecting such a large crowd to use 4G connectivity is a task filled with hurdles because a lot of people have no awareness about these connectivity.
Therefore, planned strategies are required to create awareness in people about these connectivity and to transfer a major chunk of people to 4G connectivity and then to 5G connectivity eventually, to be sure about its success.
New Connection on Old Frequencies
People in Pakistan are establishing new connections on old frequencies and that is the main hindrance in getting the fast internet connection. Even if 5G connectivity is launched in Pakistan , the companies will still try to establish it on old frequencies which nullify the purpose of 5G as it negates the purpose of 4G in Pakistan.
Infrastructure Needs Work
Another reason we don’t have 5G in Pakistan is that the infrastructure needs a lot of work to get ready for 5G connectivity. To introduce 5G connectivity in Pakistan requires a hell lot of investments, a new spectrum policy and deployments. Hence, it is not a piece of cake to just introduce the new connectivity, it requires much more than that.
According to the CEO of Jazz mobile company, if people require more after internet service we can provide them through more robust 4G connectivity, instead of spending a lot of money on all new 5G connectivity which will obviously take a lot of time to get introduced in Pakistan.
Lack Of Awareness
A lot of people using the internet resides in rural area, where getting the internet is a big deal and they have no awareness about the 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G connectivity and if we want 5G connectivity to be a success in Pakistan, awareness is needed to be created to all people about it. So along with the development of infrastructure and policies PTA also needs to make sure that the people are aware about it and accept it for their betterment instead of being stuck on 2G connectivity till now.
We Need To Go a Long Way
We need a lot of work in Pakistan to make it ready for 5G connectivity and it requires a lot of planning and strategies. However, we are progressing day by day and hopefully by 2023 we will have 5G connectivity in Pakistan too.
