The country’s education and health ministers are set to attend a meeting today to decide about the opening of educational institutions from Monday or extend the closure for a few more weeks.
According to reports, health authorities could recommend delaying the reopening of schools for a few weeks as they consider the ongoing second wave of Covid-19 more lethal than the first one but the education ministers want to reopen schools from class 9th to 12 as per the announced schedule from Jan 18.
However, it argued that despite the deteriorating Coronavirus related situation, IPEMC, on 4 January, decided to reopen the institutes all over the country. IPEMC’s decision will put students and teachers at risk of contracting the viral disease.
Note that educational institutes are reopening in phases. Secondary schools and colleges (grades 9, 10, 11, and 12), as well as O and A-Levels, will be reopened from next week in the first phase. Primary schools will be reopened from 25 January in the second phase. In the last phase, universities across the country will start on-campus classes from 1 February.
