Govt gets six names from GHQ for army's top rank

The clouds of uncertainty around the appointment of Pakistan’s new army chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee started to clear on Wednesday after GHQ confirmed that it has sent Pakistan’s defense ministry the names of six senior generals for CJCSC, and COAS appointments.

After a three-year extension, Gen. Bajwa, 61, is set to retire on November 29.

Although the candidates’ names were not included in the ISPR statement, it is believed that Lt. Gens. Asim Munir, Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Azhar Abbas, Numan Mahmud, Faiz Hameed, and Muhammad Amir are on the list.

The prime minister will choose two generals from the list to serve as Pakistan’s next CJCSC and COAS.

According to sources, PM Shehbaz might also meet with Gen Bajwa, the outgoing chief, to discuss the appointment of his successor.
