The government has distributed $316 million among the flood-affected families according to Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri (reported by Radio Pakistan).
The aid has been given under the Benazir Income Support Program to flood victims across the country.
The announcement was made during the meeting of the Executive Board of the World Food Program in Italy.
Pakistan Might Become Food Insecure by 2030
Shazia Marri during the meeting said that Pakistan faces the challenge of food insecurity by 2030 in the aftermath of heavy flooding in 2022.
As more than 33 million people have been affected in 82 districts, by floods, food is a major concern for them.
The Minister said about 4 million children and 6.5 million pregnant women are deprived of basic facilities, in flood-hit areas.
Benazir Income Support Program
The minister added that the Benazir Income Support Program and World Food Program have jointly launched an initiative to prevent food insecurity and malnutrition in the country
With a special focus on improving the health and nutritional status of pregnant women and lactating mothers, they aim to ensure a healthier future for the country and its individuals.
