NBP Wins Terror Financing Case in New York Court

According to Attorney General’s Office sources, Pakistan has managed to win a terror-financing case filed against NBP in New York’s federal court.

The sources said that the national bank was alleged a few years ago of facilitating the transfer of funds used to prepare and carry out an attack on a US military installation in Afghanistan that gunned down nine US troops. Though, just recently, the claimant, Harold Brown Sr., dropped his lawsuit against the bank, making it win the case on an international front.

The official also stated that if Pakistan had lost the lawsuit in US court, it would have faced a billion-dollar fine as a penalty on the bank, causing it to go bankrupt. Besides, it would have also elicited a visceral reaction from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). But now, after winning the case, Pakistan has saved itself from bankruptcy and other serious issues.

The International Disputes Unit of the AG Office handled the case and the group was led by Ahmed Irfan. It was the same team that was involved in the beneficial results in the Karkey, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Reko Diq, and Tuwairqi cases.
