The name “Fairy Meadows comes from the Australian climber Hermann Bhul who, in 1953, gave it this name due to its eye-catching beauty. The local name of the place is “Joot”

Hermann Bhul was the first person to climb the peak of the Nanga Parbat.

The beautiful Fairy Meadows is a grassland located in Gilgit Baltistan and located at a height of 3300m above sea level. The highest temperature in the region reaches 26 degrees C in July & 4 degrees C in January.

It is located close to the stunning Nanga Parbat, which is at an altitude of 8125m.

Nanga Parbat is also known as the “killer mountain” and is the “9th highest mountain in the world”.

You can travel to the Capital city and then take the road to Fairy Meadows. The Islamabad to Fairy Meadows travel time is 9 to 11 hours by road.

1. Islamabad to Fairy Meadows Via Gilgit 

You can travel from Islamabad to Gilgit, which is 2 hours by Air. From there, you can take the road to Raikot Bridge which is 2 hours by road. Then you can travel to Tatto, which will take 1.5 hours through a 4×4 Jeep drive. 

From Tatto, it will take you 3 hours to reach Fairy Meadows via trekking. 

2. Islamabad to Fairy Meadows Via Chilas

You can take the road from Islamabad to Chilas, which is an 11-hour road trip. From Chilas you can leave for Raikot Bridge which is 2 hours by road.

From Raikot Bridge, you can travel to Tatto, which is 1.5 hours road trip on a 4 X 4 Jeep. From there, you can trek for 2 hours and reach Fairy Meadows.

3. Islamabad to Fairy Meadows Via Kaghan Valley

The Islamabad to Kaghan Valley route is a 7-hour road trip. From there, you can go to Chilas via Babusar Pass by road in 4 hours.

From Chilas, you will take a 2-hour drive to Raikot Bridge, and then you will have to travel to Tatto for 1.5 hours via a 4 X 4 Jeep Drive.

Finally, from Tatto, you can trek to Fairy Meadows in just 3 hours.

The trek to Beyal Camp begins with a well-leveled path through a thick forest out of Fairy Meadows. The path goes along the ridge, offering views of Nanga Parbat and Raikot Glacier.

For an hour, the trail continues on a flat landscape passing through several streams until you can see an opening. Here, you can see a village that is overshadowed by Nanga Parbat.

3. Nanga Parbat Base Camp

Beyal Camp to Nanga Parbat Base Camp is a 3-hour One-Way journey. For adventure seekers and people who deeply cherish the heights, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

30 minutes past Beyal camp, you will climb up a ridge for another 30 min and walk across the rocky glacier in order to get to the base camp.

This step is a bit dangerous as the trail becomes steeper and rockier, but it also becomes more and more scenic.

Following the glacier, you will have to climb up to the Nanga Parbat base camp, which is located at a height of 3,900m.

4. Fairy Meadows Road – A Killer Road

Fairy Meadows Road is one of the most dangerous roads in the world, as it is completely unmaintained but offers spectacular views, which are a sight to behold.

It has no guardrails, and it gets very narrow near the end; therefore, you can only hike or bike ahead of the road.
The 16km long road is located in the Fairy Meadows National Park, running north-south from the Karakoram Highway to the village of Tatto, at 3,300 meters above the sea level
