Govt Allocates Rs 42 Billion for Scholarships Universities and Laptop Scheme

In the budget for FY 2022-23, the Finance Division has approved an allocation of Rs. 41.87 billion for 149 Public Sector Development Projects (PSDP) projects under the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

138 of these projects are currently ongoing, with a total budget of Rs. 38.77 billion. A total of Rs. 3.1 billion has been set aside for 11 new projects that have been authorized for budget allocation.

According to the Budget FY 2022-23, below is the breakdown of the allocation according to the document:

Universities

AJK Women University in Bagh: Rs. 200 million

FATA University: Rs. 417.73 million

University of Gwadar: Rs. 350 million

Scholarships

Scholarships for talented students from Gwadar: Rs. 20 million

Scholarships for GB students at top national universities: Rs. 100 million

Coastal Region Higher Education Scholarships Program for Balochistan: Rs. 200 million

Awarding scholarships to 3,000 talented Afghan students: Rs. 70 million

Providing 3,000 scholarships to Afghan students under Allama Iqbal Scholarship Program: Rs. 1 billion

Awarding 5,000 PhD fellowships: Rs. 400 million

Phases 2 of overseas MS/MPhil leading to PhD scholarship program: Rs. 50 million

Phases 3 of overseas MS/MPhil leading to PhD scholarship program: Rs. 600 million

Pak-USAID merit and need-based scholarship programs: Rs. 250 million

Phase III of the HEC-USAID Fulbright Scholarship Support Program: Rs. 600 million

Education

Academic collaboration under the CPEC consortium of universities: Rs. 300 million

Bilateral academic and research bonds with multiple countries: Rs. 60 million

Creating higher education opportunities for students of Balochistan and FATA: Rs. 450 million

National Center of Excellence in Big Data and Cloud Computing: Rs. 354.07 million 

National Center of Excellence in Cyber Security: Rs. 185 million

National Center of Excellence in Robotics and Automation: Rs. 200 million

Creation of Seerat Chairs in all public sector universities: Rs. 152 million

Higher Education Development Program of Pakistan (HEDPP): Rs. 1 billion

Master leading to PhD Program for students of Balochistan: Rs. 235 million

Pak-UK Education Gateway: Rs. 300 million

High Performance and Resource Centers under the Kamyab Jawan Program and Youth Olympics: Rs. 400 million

Kamyab Jawan’s Talent Hunt Program and Youth Sports League: Rs. 250 million

Laptop Scheme

Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme: Rs. 1 billion
