The glorious T20 World Cup is back after a hiatus of 5 years and things are heating up as the tournament continues in the host nation UAE. The T20 World Cup was last held in India in 2016, with the West Indies being crowned as the champions of this shorter format. The latest version was initially scheduled to be held in 2020 in Australia and had to be postponed for a year and then shifted to the UAE due to the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.
The defending champions the West Indies are now ranked at number 10 while England is the top-ranked T20 side in the ICC World T20 rankings. Pakistan stands at number 3 and has a substantial shot at getting their hands on the World Cup Trophy.
T20 World Cup 2021 Schedule
The initiation of the World T20 championship took place with the World Cup qualifier round held in Oman and UAE from 17th to 22nd October 2021. The teams that qualified included Namibia, Scotland, Srilanka, and Bangladesh who went on to join the 8 top teams in the Super 12 round of the world cup.
The Super 12 stage is divided into 2 groups, the defending champions the West Indies are in the mix with Srilanka, England, Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa. Uber talented Pakistan is grouped with India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia in what promises to be a cracker of a series.
The Knockout Stage starts on November 10th while the final is to be held on November 14th.
