Gilgit-Baltistan Launches Free Transportation Service for Women

Highlights 

  • Office of the Chief Secretary announces women-only buses 
  • The buses will be operational by this week
  • The routes have been announced and the timings will be released soon

To facilitate young girls and women in Gilgit Baltistan, women-only buses have been introduced which will be in operation by this week. 

Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, chief secretary of the region announced that the buses would provide free transportation to women and would be functional on key routes during peak hours.

Free Travel for Women 

Ahmad Wani added that girls can now travel in a safe and comfortable environment and freely travel to their educational institutions, markets, hospitals, etc.

Timings are yet to be announced for the women-only buses. The 3 finalized routes can be seen in the image in purple, blue and red colors. 

A Landmark Event by the GB Government 

The announcement has received positive feedback from the public. The public has also requested for strict regulations on taxi fares in the region.
This is a landmark event by the Government of GB for the public which will first be operational in Gilgit city and then in Skardu City.
