Pakistan Records Its Highest Ever IT Export in First 9 Months of FY 2022

IT exports reach its highest in nine month in FY 2022

From July 2021 to March 2022, IT export remittances, which include telecommunication, computer, and information services, increased by 29.26 percent to $1.948 billion, up from $1.507 billion in FY 2020-21. According to data issued by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication in December 2021, ICT exports were $251 million, a 29 percent increase over the $195 million recorded in December 2020.

They were also $58 million higher than export remittances of $201 million at the end of February 2022. At some point in FY 2021-22, net exports for the period July 2021 to March 2022 totalled $1.472 billion, accounting for 75.56 percent of total ICT exports of $1.948 billion. Last year, internet exports totalled $1.126 billion, accounting for 74.72 percent of total exports of $1.507 billion. 

The net exports connected to the IT industry exclusively, excluding additional services like call centres, were $1.47 billion in the first nine months of this fiscal year, accounting for 75.56 percent of the overall $1.94 billion in ICT exports.

Syed Aminul Haq, the Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications has urged the PSEB to take all necessary steps to meet the objective for IT export remittances. He stated that under the prime minister’s goal of “Digital Pakistan,” it is critical to advance all information technology-related issues and connect the youth, particularly students, to the digital world.
