Police Helped Starving Man in Muzaffargarh Who Dialed 15 for Food

Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Sargani village in Karor Lal Esan tehsil, made a desperate call for help. As a daily laborer, he had been without work for an extended period, and the rising inflation had exacerbated his family’s situation.

Bashir, along with his wife and four children, had gone without food for the past two days.

Upon receiving this distressing call, Layyah District Police Officer (DPO) Asadur Rehman reached out to Bashir and offered him counseling and food.

A Gesture of Kindness

Early the next morning, DPO Asadur Rehman, along with his team, visited Bashir’s home in Sargani village. They brought with them enough food to sustain Bashir’s family for several weeks and also provided him with cash assistance.

Inspector Muhammad Idris Khan, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Karor Police Station, accompanied the DPO during this mission.

DPO Asadur Rehman expressed that this was the first time they had received such a distressing call on helpline 15, where a citizen reported that his family was starving, having gone without food for two days, and was on the brink of starvation.

In a subsequent video message, DPO Asadur Rehman shared that when he initially spoke to Bashir, the struggling man had contemplated taking his own life due to dire financial circumstances.

The DPO implored Bashir to hold on and assured him that the police would come to his aid.

DPO Asadur Rehman provided counseling to Bashir, emphasizing the importance of not taking any actions that could jeopardize the lives of his children and wife.

He appealed to the more fortunate members of society to remain vigilant about the struggles faced by those around them.

In a video interview with a YouTuber, Bashir expressed his gratitude and estimated that the essential items provided by the DPO were valued at approximately Rs60,000 to Rs70,000.

This incident highlighted the dire consequences of financial hardship, prompting the police to step in and provide crucial assistance to a family on the brink of starvation.

It also encourages the privileged to help those around them as much as possible.
