The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has recently implemented a new travel requirement for passengers flying abroad.
Under this directive, all airlines must now check the polio vaccination cards of passengers before departure.
This rule is applicable to all airports and airlines. Therefore, travelers are strongly advised to ensure that their polio vaccination cards are up-to-date before embarking on international journeys.

4 Week Vaccination Period
To comply with the new regulations, the CAA has advised the general public to obtain international polio vaccination and follow a 4-week polio vaccination period before boarding a flight.
Airport staff will inform passengers about this requirement while issuing tickets. The 4-week vaccination period is now mandatory for all international travelers.
NADRA’s Stance
In response to this development, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) clarified its stance through a tweet.
The CAA has emphasized the importance of obtaining updated polio vaccination cards once the existing ones have expired. This measure aims to bolster efforts to prevent the spread of polio and safeguard global health.
NADRA stated that it is responsible for issuing Polio Vaccination certificates but does not have jurisdiction over immigration-related matters.
The directive to check passengers’ polio vaccination certificates was issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Polio Crises in Pakitsan
Pakistan continues to fight against polio, as it is one of the last countries grappling with this highly infectious and debilitating disease.
Polio is typically transmitted through contaminated water or food and can cause total paralysis within hours.
The virus has been thriving in the border areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where anti-polio teams have faced attacks from militants.
Covid Restrictions Lifted
On a related note, the CAA has lifted the requirements for presenting COVID-19 vaccination certificates and negative PCR test reports for passengers traveling to and from Pakistan.
Additionally, the 2% screening condition for COVID-19, previously applied to passengers arriving from the UK, Gulf, and other countries, has also been abolished in June.
As a result, passengers are no longer required to show COVID-19 vaccination and testing evidence while traveling to and from Pakistan.
