A 3-day International Conference on the ‘Applications of Nuclear Techniques for Sustainable Socio-economic Development’ has started in Islamabad. The conference began on 24th October and will end on 26th October.
During the opening ceremony, a lifetime achievement award was presented to former Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Muhammad Naeem, and Ghulam Nabi former member Technical team PAEC.
The Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) has arranged the conference and aims to highlight the peaceful use of nuclear technology and to attain sustainable socio-economic development.
Conference on Nuclear Techniques and Development
The conference includes a thematic session, and 7 presentation sessions including a “Women in Nuclear” (WIN) session dedicated to women. It also includes 40 presentations highlighting advancements in the peaceful use of nuclear technology to achieve sustainable development.
At the inaugural session, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed (Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defense,) was the chief guest.
In his speech, Mushahid Syed appreciated the initiative taken by the PNS for holding a conference and pointed out how nuclear technology can be a very constructive and an extremely destructive tool at the same time.
Pakistan Nuclear Society
Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) is a non-government, non-commercial body formed in 1990 by engineers and scientists.
Its major goal is to promote peaceful uses of nuclear technology in various sectors including health, industries, power generation, agriculture, etc.
