Government to Develop Some Villages as Model Rural Tourism Destinations

PTDC’s managing director Aftab ur Rehman Rana has announced that 10 villages across Pakistan have been selected as experimental rural tourist areas by PTDC.

His claim was that the PTDC had put these areas on a map of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, issued by the UN’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

“Pakistan is mainly a rural country and tourism can greatly contribute to the socio-economic development of our rural areas which are otherwise neglected in the overall development agenda of the government because usually more focus of government’s schemes is on the development of urban areas”, he added.

Rural tourism, he said, promotes local communities to revitalize and conserve their traditions, crafts, traditional festivals, architecture, and other unique customs.
