SBP Refutes Rumours of Halting Payments to Google

State Bank of Pakistan has refuted allegations of holding payments to Google. The bank called all such assertions baseless and misleading.

Explaining the situation, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said that some cellular operators had violated foreign exchange laws by misusing information technology services.

In addition to utilizing theaforesaid mechanism to remit funds for IT related services for their own use, Telcos were remitting bulk of the funds for video gaming, entertainment content, etc. purchased by their customers using airtime, under Direct Carrier Billing (DCB), SBP said in the recent statement.

On the other hand, Google has made the decision to halt DCB services starting on November 30 until all overdue payments have been made.
