ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the local authorities of Punjab and Islamabad imposed Section 144, which limits public and political gatherings across the provinces of Punjab and the Federal capital. The local authorities banned public rallies and protests after hearing about the nationwide protests planned for Friday by Imran Khan, PTI.
What is Section 144?
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) allows local authorities to issue orders to prevent certain activities if they are deemed harmful to public safety. For example, they can ban large gatherings or other activities for a set time. The police enforce these bans.
This ban will be in effect from Friday, 26 July 2024, to Sunday, July 28. To maintain law and order to prevent any political security threats. Officials will make sure that this order will be followed in both the province and federation.
