Three-day Shandur Polo Festival Begins in Chitral Today

Shandur Polo Festival

The Shandur Polo Festival will take place in Chitral from July 1 to 3, according to the Gilgit-Baltistan tourist and sports administration.

In conjunction with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, this annual event is taking place at a 3,700-meter-high polo field above sea level, making it the highest polo ground in the world.

“Freestyle rules” will be followed by the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Khurshid Khan, GB Chief Minister, invited his Khyber Pakhtunkhwa colleague Mahmood Khan to the celebration as the chief guest on July 1.

Covid-19-induced limitations have prevented the celebration from taking place for a few years, but it will be staged this year with the agreement and coordination of both the KP and GB governments.

Since its inception in 1980, the Shandur Festival has been held yearly, drawing tens of thousands of locals and visitors from all over the world.
