Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan, has called on donors of all blood types to enroll in the initiative to save lives and promote health equity.
Safe blood donations are fundamental to delivering effective and timely care to patients in need. Normal people can help others by donating blood and sharing their lives in this way. In light of this, President Dr. Arif Alvi has also urged all healthy adult citizens in Pakistan to donate blood as frequently as possible as a religious act to save lives through regular, voluntary, unpaid blood donations. He made the request in a statement for World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated on 14th June.
The President stated that an adequate number of healthy people must donate blood on a daily basis to ensure that it is readily available whenever and wherever it is needed.
The slogan of World Blood Donor Day this year, as decided by WHO is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity; join the effort and save lives.”
Indeed, societies can ensure that people have timely access to safe and quality-assured blood and blood products by instituting a system of regular and non-payment blood donations and safeguarding the transfusion chain, the president emphasized.
